Yesterday we embarked on our own adventure out in the Swiss mountains. The leaders set out the challenge to plan, budget and organise our own mini adventure in the Lauterbrunnen valley. Before we left we worked out our day with the help of Diane (the owner of the Alpenhof) who went through the various options available to us. We assessed the costs, routes and possible risks that could occur and decided to bring with us a leader's mobile phone and first aid kit for maximum safety. We then agreed check points and listed out our intended route, budget and timetable.
After a hot breakfast we set off on a 1 hour hike to Staubbachfall waterfall where we were able to climb under it. We then arrived at the local town of Lauterbrunnen where we were able to purchase souvenirs and ice cream. After a local bus ride back, we left Stechelberg and arrived at Mürren by cable car, a fantastic way of seeing the mountain scenery. Mürren is a traditional alpine village. We then set off on a two hour hike down the mountain. We stopped off at Gimmelwald where we found an Honesty Shop, a shop with no shop keeper and instead you were trusted to pay for your items alone. By the end of this down hill trek we were exhausted but felt a sense of accomplishment at the success of our independent travels.
